Logano Hosts Middle School Students at Dover
Dover, DE- Joey Logano, driver of the No. 22 Shell Penzoil Ford Fusion, had a chance to meet with some underprivileged youth before the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at the Dover International Speedway last weekend. Shell’s Fuel for Success program, the Dover Police Department, and student resource office Cpl. Keith Hester provided the opportunity for the students to meet with Joey and get a behind the scenes look at the track on race day. Cpl. Hester generated interest amongst the kids by organizing an Xbox NASCAR tournament; any participant in the tournament got to attend the race through the program. “I got involved because of the video game tournament we had at our school,” said Central Middle School 8th-grader, Tanor Conter. “I didn’t win but I wanted to be part of the program because I like it a lot.”
All told, Joey met with 40 middle school students before the race. After a cook out style lunch, the kids got to look around the driver’s garage and received a guided tour of the pit area. A private meet and greet with Joey took place immediately before the race. Once the race began, the kids went up to their complimentary seats to enjoy the race. “I’ve been to a couple of races before, but I never been in the pit,” said Central Middle School eighth-grader Casey Mast. “Having that access was a lot of fun and was a great experience.”
